Spinach, Zucchini, and Carrot Dog Treats

Spinach, Zucchini, and Carrot Dog Treats

It’s the time of year that my dog Grace dreads. HOT summer days. Don’t get me wrong, she loves playing and swimming on warm summer days, but Grace REALLY loves going with me wherever I go, and this time of year is just too hot to let her hang out in my car while I run errands. Since I can’t take her with me, I like to give her a homemade treat when I leave. Yes, she is spoiled. I found a recipe on Damn Delicious for dog treats that had a few different veggies, pumpkin puree, and peanut butter – Grace’s favorite things! I made a batch this afternoon and they are most definitely Grace approved. She devoured a few treats in no time and was hoping for more – I’ll take that as a good sign.

How to Make Spinach, Zucchini, and Carrot Dog Treats

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Whisk the pumpkin puree, peanut butter, and eggs until well combined, about 1-2 minutes.

Gradually add old-fashioned oats and 2/12 of cups whole wheat flour, mixing with a rubber spatula just until incorporated. Add an additional 1/4 cup flour at a time just until the dough is no longer sticky. Add spinach, zucchini, and carrot, mixing until just incorporated.

Working on a lightly floured surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough to 1/4-inch thickness.

Spinach, Zucchini, and Carrot Dog Treats

Use a dog treat cutter to cut out the desired shape and place it onto the prepared baking sheet.

Place into oven and bake until the edges are golden brown, about 20-25 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely on a wire rack.

Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator or freezer. Enjoy.

  1. Bev makes dog food for the pups but I don’t think she has considered treats so I’ll show her this.

  2. Now all I need is the dog. LOL. Take care Diane

  3. These are so cute – my dogs would devour these!

  4. Your Gracie is adorable! And doubtless with as discriminating palate as the rest of your family. (OK, I take that back; I know dogs will eat anything. But still…) I’m not going to show this to Thatcher and Patrick, or I’ll have to bake for Thatcher, too!

    1. Thanks for the recipe! I would make sure the peanut butter used is sugar-free.
